Wisematic’s EU Co-Funded Development Project

Energy and Material Savings through Automation and Automated Quality Control in PIC Production Processes

Wisematic Oy is implementing a development project co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), aiming to promote energy and material savings by automating the production and quality control of PIC chips (Photonic Integrated Circuits). The project leverages international experience and explores automation opportunities especially in Europe and other countries, where the semiconductor industry is growing.

PIC-chip manufacturing is energy-intensive and requires significant natural resources. By automating testing phases, production yield can be improved, unnecessary rejections reduced, and both energy and materials saved. As a result, Wisematic will gain new expertise and international contacts that support the company’s growth and internationalization. At the same time, the project advances technology know-how and the development of the business network in the Pirkanmaa and Tampere region.

The project emphasizes responsibility, environmental protection, and EU fundamental rights. Wisematic is committed to promoting equality, safe working conditions, and ecological sustainability in all its activities. The project supports the company’s strategic goals and strengthens its position as an international supplier of automation and testing solutions.

The project is part of the “Renewing and Competent Finland 2021–2027” EU regional and structural policy program, with 50% of funding from the EU and the state, and 50% from Wisematic’s own resources.
